our approach
A design practice creating bespoke growing spaces, even where space is limited, producing gardens that are functional, ecological and beautiful.
We endeavour to source all equipment, seeds, plants and compost locally and from reputable sources. The varieties that we choose for kitchen gardens have been tried and tested so we know what will thrive in your area.
We work with our clients to create a personal sanctuary where they can be proud to know that their garden is making a difference, be that with growing their own produce or creating a wildlife hub. We tailor the planting to a client’s needs and capabilities always providing a unique design. Beginning with an initial consultation right through to a maintenance plan we ensure your garden flourishes for many years to come.
CURRENT PROJECTS
We are undergoing several exciting projects in the South West including a stunning redesign of a classic cottage garden, a woodland planting scheme, a bakery and market garden project in Somerset and series of planting schemes for a hillside holiday let. All projects will be completed Summer 2024 and we look forward to sharing images of the completed gardens in due course.
PLANTSCAPING
We offer tailored plantscaping for hotels, restaurants and other hospitality establishments, as well as residential interior plantscaping. We specialise in both permanent installations as well as temporary pop-ups. We source high quality houseplants and curate ornamental pots to suit the environment. We are practiced in installing the required hardware and mechanics to create spaces as green as desired.
Our Story
Freddy Owen and Lucinda Crosby Jones grew up a stone’s throw from each other in West Dorset but didn’t cross paths until fate brought them together while both living in New York. Discovering a mutual passion for plants, growing and everything in-between they quickly put a plan in place to combine their distinct skills to set up a design and build practice when they would next return to the UK.
Freddy, a skilful and ardent plantswoman, with a Planting Design Diploma from London College of Garden Design, Kew, a Bsc in Plantsmanship from The Royal Botanical Gardens Edinburgh and certificates from The New York Botanical Gardens is the driving force of horticultural know-how that Owen & Crosby directs into creating ecological havens indoors and out.
Lucinda spent several years working for notable companies, Sunspel and Aesop, honing a love of impeccable and considered design. After returning from New York in 2020 she graduated from the British Academy of Garden design with a Post Graduate Diploma. Lucinda utilises her meticulous attention to detail and eye for intriguing design to ensure Owen & Crosby’s gardens are as beautiful as they are functional.
